We are the STEM Teacher Leader Collaborative at UNCG (TLC). We are a budding community of teachers, teacher candidates, and university faculty striving towards a sustainable support network of educators enacting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in high-needs elementary schools in the North Carolina Piedmont Triad. We believe in nurturing STEM equity, empowering teachers, and growing our community's STEM education infrastructure, beginning with the elementary level.
WHAT IS TLC?
Since 2013, Dr. Heidi Carlone, Dr. Jennifer Mangrum and a team of energized students from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro have worked with approximately sixty elementary teachers from high-needs schools in Guilford County in weeklong Summer Institutes where participants are immersed in problems of practice related to teaching science and engineering. The STEM TLC will support, celebrate, and sustain teachers' efforts to include rigorous and responsive science and engineering education in the elementary classroom.
